Kris Allen wins American Idol

Uncategorized Send feedback »

Kris Allen was crowned the winner on last night's American Idol. The laid-back country boy beat flamboyant California kid Adam Lambert to take the title. But before we got the news...

Ryan Seacrest told us that a series record of just under 100-million votes decided their fate. Throughout the night, Seacrest handed out Golden Idol Awards to dishonor the worst auditions of the season. Nick "Norman Gentle" Mitchell, "Bikini Girl" Katrina Darrell and emotional rollercoaster Tatiana Del Toro got trophies.

It was a night of all-star performances that included...

*
As a new champ was about to be crowned, then-reigning Idol champ David Cook did his single, ironically titled "Permanent."
*
Lil Rounds joined Queen Latifah to perform "Cue the Rain."
*
Jason Mraz joined the former contestants for group sing of "I'm Yours."
*
Keith Urban joined Kris Allen for a double-guitar duet of "Kiss a Girl."
*
The ladies from the Top 13 sang "Big Girls Don't Cry" with Fergie, which turned into a Black Eyed Peas fest and a performance of "Boom Boom Pow."
*
Allison Iraheta joined Cyndi Lauper for a duet of "Time After Time."
*
Danny Gokey was joined on stage by Lionel Richie for a medley of "Hello," "Just Go" and "All Night Long."
*
Adam Lambert had some sort of black metal Mad Max suit on to perform KISS's "Beth." Then the band joined him onstage for a fireworks-heavy, guitar-bashing medley of "Detroit Rock City" and "Rock and Roll All Night."
*
The Top 13 joined Carlos Santana for "Black Magic Woman" and "Smooth."
*
Megan Joy and Michael Sarver joined banjo-twanging Steve Martin for a Martin-penned song called "Pretty Flowers."
*
Rod Stewart was there in a loud plaid jacket to perform "Maggie May."
*
Then Kris Allen and Adam Lambert took the stage for a final performance of Queen's "We Are the Champions" with Brian May and the band.

And finally after two-plus hours, we got the news that Allen had won. He cried, "Are you freakin' serious?" and protested that the title deserved to go to his onetime roommate Adam Lambert. --Bill McCleary

Jessica Biel says her beauty comes at a price.

The actress tells Allure magazine she's been discriminated against because she's too good-looking. "It really is a problem, I have to be blunt. I just want an opportunity. If you don't like the audition, then don't hire me. But if you don't want to see me, that's hurtful."

Oksana Grigorieva's mom says her daughter didn't break up Mel Gibson's marriage.

Lyudmila Chernukha spoke to People magazine about Oksana's relationship with Mel, but on the subject of her daughter's rumored pregnancy, she's keeping quiet. "I can't say anything. Wait for the official statement from them."

Lyudmila, a retired Russian music teacher, claims Oksana began dating Mel after he split with his wife Robyn. "He split up with his wife three years ago, so to suggest that she has broken up their marriage is rubbish. He was no longer with his wife so he was bound to meet some woman at some point, it just happened to be Oksana."

Last night on American Idol

Uncategorized Send feedback »

The last two American Idol singers went head-to-head for the title last night.

Ryan Seacrest opened the live event by telling us that Adam Lambert and Kris Allen would compete with three songs. They'll do a favorite that they've already sung. Producer Simon Fuller gets a pick, and they'll perform a song that was co-written by judge Kara DioGuardi.

Lambert was up first. Our mascara man was in full vampire mode as he descended a fog-shrouded stairway in a trench coat to do his love-it-or-hate-it version of the Tears for Fears song "Mad World."

* Randy said, "I'm gonna give you an A-plus on that one."
* Kara said, "You rocked it again tonight."
* Paula said, "You did a brilliant job."
* Simon said, "It was a little bit over theatrical...a little Phantom of the Opera."

Kris was at the piano do to his moody and moving take on the Bill Withers classic "Ain't No Sunshine."

* Randy said, "That was one of your best performances ever."
* Kara said, "You have a way of creating an intimate bond with everybody in the audience."
* Paula said, "You have awakened the spirit in all of us."
* Simon said, "I'm going to call that [round] for Kris."

Round two and Simon Fuller's pick for Adam was Sam Cooke's R-and-B classic "A Change Is Gonna Come." Lambert was in a slick suit and busted out the trademark Lambert Wail for a soulful rendition.

* Randy said, "You can sing your face off and that was unbelievable."
* Kara said, "That may have been your best performance and interpretation of a song."
* Paula said, "That was the best I've ever heard you sing."
* Simon said, "You are 100-percent back in the game."

Kris was seated center stage with his guitar to do Fuller's pick, Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On."

* Randy said, "You sang it great, it was just a little light for me."
* Kara said, "You're the kind of artist that can deliver that message and uplift people."
* Paula said, "I know what's going on -- you tore that song up and made Marvin Gaye proud."
* Simon said, "It was too laid back for a night like this, sorry... Million-percent Adam round two."

For the final song, Adam was the first to try Kara's clunky rock ballad "No Boundaries."

* Randy said, "That was not one of my favorite Adam performances...It was a little pitchy."
* Kara said, "I'm moved and I'm proud and I thank you for giving me that moment."
* Paula said, "I will be a fan forever."
* Simon said, "I'm not going to judge that song, I'm going to judge you. Over the entire season, you have been one of the best, most original contestants we've ever had on the show."

Kris Allen left the instruments offstage to do Kara's song and close out the competition.

* Randy said, "You are an amazing competitor."
* Kara said, "You are a compelling artist."
* Paula said, "You deserve where you are in that spotlight."
* Simon said, "You thoroughly, thoroughly deserve to be standing on that stage tonight."

Lambert and Allen were arm-in-arm as Idol alum Carrie Underwood took us out with her version of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home," which has been this season's send-off song. The winner will be crowned on tonight's results show, which features a Who's Who of musical guests. --Bill McCleary

Robert Pattinson reveals a few secrets

Uncategorized Send feedback »

(thr) Robert Pattinson, who shot to stardom in "Twilight" and is now filming the second and third movies in the franchise, confirmed Tuesday in Cannes that there will be a fourth installment of the vampire franchise based on the book "Breaking Dawn."

Pattinson told The Hollywood Reporter that he is committed to starring in the final outing to date but doesn't know when backers Summit Entertainment will begin production because of the actor's jam-packed shooting schedule.

Fans have been hoping for a movie version of the fourth novel from Stephenie Meyer's best-sellers, so Pattinson's commitment is the biggest fillip yet. The fourth book (caution -- spoiler alert) centers on Bella and Edward's marriage and her subsequent pregnancy.

Dropping in on the Croisette on the way to shooting the final four days of "New Moon" in Italy on Friday, Pattinson said he is heading back to Vancouver in October to finish up "Twilight: Eclipse," the third installment. In between, the British actor, who turned 23 last week, plans to star in "Remember Me," which Summit also is producing.

The script adaptation for "New Moon" beefs up his character's role considerably -- in the book, Edward is a "a voice in Bella's head," he said.

Said Pattinson, laughing: "You're playing a figment in Bella's imagination so I was trying to do it in a 2-D way. I hope it doesn't translate onscreen as being boring." The hardworking actor is taking a few days off after completing "New Moon" before the start of the "Remember Me" shoot. He plans three days off after an eight-week planned shoot for "Remember Me" before finishing "Eclipse" before October.

Pattinson said "Remember Me" is very difficult to describe but said it is very much about him and, after reading the script last summer, felt a connection with it. The main protagonist is a 23-year-old man who spends six weeks after meeting someone working out if he is in love or not.

(radar online) Kate Gosselin gave husband Jon a contract saying he could date others as long as he showed up for filming of their hit reality show, Jon & Kate Plus Eight, her brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Jodi Kreider said in an explosive new interview, exclusively with RadarOnline.com.

Kate Gosselin has told Jon their relationship is over and they should begin dating others, according to Jodi Kreider. She said Kate had presented Jon with a contract that laid out the aforementioned circumstances in explicit detail. She said Jon was taken aback by Kate's bluntness in terminating the relationship.

Kevin Kreider said Jon has told him he can have girlfriends, do his own thing and has the freedom to do what he wants [on] certain days -- so long as he fulfills his professional obligations in regards to the show.

Jodi said both ignored their marital problems to keep the show's ratings high, and that it takes many people to pull off the ruse of showcasing their dysfunctional marriage as a happy one for the cameras.

"This is a train wreck," Jodi said.
